FAQ

Questions we get asked

ID rules, pickups, payment and materials. If your question is not here, call the yard — someone will answer.

Pickups & drop-off

Is pickup really free?

Pickup is free for loads over 50kg within 25km of Sunshine. Smaller or further loads may carry a small callout fee, which we'll always quote first.

Can I just drop scrap off at the yard?

Yes. Drive in during opening hours, follow the signs to the public bay, and we'll direct you to the weighbridge. No booking needed for normal loads.

How quickly can you collect?

Most requests received before midday are collected the same day. Bigger or further jobs can take a little longer — we'll confirm a time when you call.

Do you help with loading?

Our crews lift and load for pickups. For drop-offs, please bring help for very heavy items or ask us at the gate.

Payment & ID

Do I need to bring ID to drop off scrap?

Yes. Victorian scrap metal law requires photo ID for every drop-off or pickup — it protects you and us against buying stolen metal.

How am I paid?

Cash or direct bank transfer, before we leave the site or you leave the yard. There are no invoices to wait on.

How are your rates set?

Our board rates track the LME (London Metal Exchange) daily and are posted at the yard each morning, so the price you're quoted is the price you're paid.

Do you offer trade accounts?

Yes — regular customers such as electricians, plumbers and fabricators can set up a running account with monthly statements. Call us to get started.

Materials

Do I need to strip cable before bringing it?

No. Stripped copper pays more, but we also take insulated cable at its own rate. If you're unsure, send a photo and we'll tell you what it's worth either way.

Do you take whitegoods with the motor still inside?

Yes — whitegoods are weighed as steel. Fridges and air-conditioners must be degassed first, so please ask us before you bring them.

What can't you take?

We can't accept gas cylinders, asbestos-contaminated material, or anything still pressurised. Ask us and we can usually point you to who can.

What we can't take

  • Gas cylinders or anything still pressurised
  • Asbestos-contaminated material
  • Lithium-ion batteries (call first)
  • Anything without a legitimate owner or receipt of sale

Not sure what you've got?

Send a photo through and we'll tell you what it's worth before you load the ute.
