Stainless is worth more than mild steel, and a magnet can tell most of it apart. If a magnet does not stick, there is a good chance it is 304 stainless.

Do the magnet test: 304/316 is usually non-magnetic.
Strip out plastic, rubber and glass where possible.
Keep it separate from mild steel — mixed loads are priced as steel.
